Found this image here and thought you all would found it amusing.

You know what would have made this whole situation so much more epic? If these two didn't even know each other.

Harry Potter Abridged

While not exactly manga/anime related, I decided to post up some amusing Harry Potter comics Melvin linked to me - mostly because watching the last movie left me feeling bittersweet and nostalgic.

Lucy Knisley has managed to condense the first five Harry Potter books into a single page abridged comic for each novel, resulting in endless hilarity in my opinion.

Here's a look at Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone:

Get a doctorate in manga!

Hey folks,

Melvin sent me something very interesting: apprently a university in Japan is allowing students to get a doctorate in manga!

Check out the article here.

Here's me crossing my fingers that a degree in manga studies will eventually find its way to Canadian universities - because I totally want the excuse to say "See Dad, all that Inuyachu (as he calls all manga/anime) stuff did pay off - you may now call me Doctor Jess, thank you very much". :D

Dub the Scene!

Hey folks,

To mix things up a bit I've decided to introduce a monthly blog game, which I have called: Dub that Scene!

Here's the premise: Once a month I will upload a screen shot from a random anime/manga. Your job is to do the following:

Email me a short statement describing what is happening in the scene or what the character(s)
are thinking/saying.

The point is not to literally describe the scene or actually quote the characters if you recognize the anime/manga. The point is the entertain by making fun-of the images by pairing them with witty, ironic, and amusing statements!

I will leave the the screen shot up for about a week - during which time you can email me your statements. After about a week I will gather all your entries and place them up in a poll -then all of you can vote on your favourites! The voting period will last until the next meeting, where we will announce the winner!

I will need at least two entries in order to be able to put up the poll and have the contest.

Send me an email if you have any questions.

And with out further ado, here's the first screen shot:

Golduck uses...SONIC SCREWDRIVER!

Send me your ideas folks!

All the best,

Jess

Pimping Artists: Jia Gem

Just in time for Anime North, I'd like to present to you folks one of the exquisute cosplayers I follow online: Jia Gem.

She not only coplays anime/manga characters, but game characters as well. I actually first came across her when I stumbled across her amazing Jack cosplay from the video game, Mass Effect.

Her original designs are also amazing to behold. I'm particularly in love with her recent Red Rose costume

Oneo f the other things I like about her is the she outlines the process she went through in creating the costume, as well as gives tips and advice on how others can reproduce them.

Go check her out!

Fans of Dissidia: Final Fantasy will be happy to know that we will now be getting a sequel to the first game in the form of Dissidia 012: [duodecim] Final Fantasy.
For those who are unfamiliar with the first game here's the bare bones of it: the protagonists and antagonists of various Final Fantasy games are brought together to fight one-on-one battles in the ultimate war between good and evil.
In this sequel all the original cast of the first game will be returning along with Kain Highwind from Final Fantasy IV, Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII, Laguna Loire from Final Fantasy VIII, Yuna from Final Fantasy X, Vaan from Final Fantasy XII, and Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII. Pimping Artists: kazekage2

Hey folks,

It's time to place the spotlight on another artist, and this time we have our very own CAMC member, Nigel, also known as kazekage2!

Head here to check out his gallery.

Nigel specializes in creating Fractal images - a medium I know little about, but find very pleasing to look at. The images are rather abstract but have a lot of energy and motion to them, which is my favourite kind of abstract art!
I'm sure Nigel would be willing to explain the mechanics behind Fractal creation should any of you be interested.

All the best,

Jess

P.S. Should any of our members have deviantart accounts and wish to have their art displayed in one of our blog entries, feel free to send me a message with your info.

Gotham High

Here's something you fans of the Batman might find interesting: link.
Apparently, at one point in time, a series was put forth that re-visioned various characters of the Batman universe as freshmen in high school. :)
Can you imagine? The awkwardness of Batman and the Joker in gym class together? Or Poison Ivy and Catwoman having girl talk in the caf? I don't know whether to consider the whole concept ridiculous or ingenious.

Follow the link for some interesting concept art and an article explaining the premise of the series.
